Gutters Sagging in the Middle?

A gutter that dips and holds water in the middle of the run, usually failed hangers, the wrong slope, or a heavy clog.

Is This What You Are Seeing?

The gutter has a visible dip in the middle of the run, like a smile, and after it rains the water sits there instead of draining. You might see a waterline stain or a stripe of dirt marking how full it gets.

A sagging gutter only sags more. Every rain adds weight in the low spot, the weight drags the hangers further, and the dip deepens until the run either overflows constantly or pulls off the house entirely.

Why It Happens

Too few hangers, or failed ones

If the brackets are spaced too far apart or have worked loose, the gutter has nothing holding the middle up and it sags under the weight of water and debris.

The wrong slope

A gutter needs a slight, consistent pitch to the downspout. If a section was hung flat or the pitch was lost as hangers slipped, water collects in the low point instead of running off.

Standing water and debris weight

A clogged gutter holds gallons of water and wet debris. That load is heavy, and it is what bends the run and bows it down in the middle.

What It Costs You to Wait

  • Constant overflow at the low spot every time it rains
  • Hangers tearing loose until the run pulls away from the house
  • Standing water that grows algae and breeds mosquitoes
  • Added weight rotting the fascia where the sag pulls hardest

How We Fix It

If the gutter is sound, we re-hang the sagging section with hidden hangers spaced closer than the builder standard and reset the proper pitch to the downspout so it drains instead of pooling. If the run has been holding water so long that the metal is bent or the fascia behind it has gone soft, re-hanging alone will not hold and we will tell you so. We fix the slope and the support, not just lift the dip for a week.

  • We show up after storms when others will not
  • Fair written estimate, and we stick to it
  • Sagging, leaks, hangers, and downspouts all handled

What Customers Say

“They showed up, gave me a very fair estimate, and stuck to it. They repaired and replaced my gutters after the storm destroyed them. I contacted four other contractors who did not even bother to give me an estimate. The best in the business.”

Sagging Gutters: Questions, Answered

Can a sagging gutter be fixed, or does it need to be replaced?

If the metal is still straight and the fascia behind it is solid, a sag is usually a re-hang and re-pitch, not a replacement. We add hangers, reset the slope, and the run drains again. We only call for replacement when the gutter is bent from holding water too long or the wood behind it has rotted out.

Why does water sit in my gutter instead of draining?

Either the gutter has lost its pitch toward the downspout or there is a sag holding water in a low spot. Gutters are not flat, they are hung with a slight slope so water runs to the outlet. When a section drops or was hung level, the water has no way to move and just sits, which adds weight and makes the sag worse.
